Windows Phone Commercial

Microsoft has taken the leap and for the first time is running TV ads for its Windows Mobile operating system. The commercial highlights the fact that there is no identifiable “Microsoft Phone” and tries to meet that challenge by trying not to  focus  the phone in the ad but on the little apps that you can take with you on any “Microsoft Mobile Phone”. The ad surely misses the boat and has been deemed a fail  by many blogs such as TechFlash who calls  it “downright strange” and lacking the impact of the successful Laptop Hunter series: Am I missing something here? I’ve watched it three times now, and still don’t think it resonates. We’ve actually been impressed with Microsoft’s “Laptop Hunters” ad campaign — which appears to be making inroads against Apple — as well as some of the more recent Windows 7 ads. But this one is just downright strange. Or Engadget who points out : …this commercial — labeled with AT&T logos in the US but also running unlabeled worldwide — doesn’t seem to do a good job of pointing out that Windows Phone is a platform and not a device. In fact, if we didn’t know better, we’d think that the HTC Pure is, in fact, the “Windows Phone” — even though the dude in the spot is holding a totally different generic device. Just...
