Microsoft Announces SQL Server 2016, With Version for Linux

In a blog post yesterday, Microsoft announced that they will bring the newest version of SQL Server to Linux. The private preview, which includes the core database features found in SQL Server 2016, is available for download today.

Microsoft is holding its Data Driven event in New York on Thursday. In a post on their blog, Executive Vice President of Cloud and Enterprise Scott Guthrie outlined a number of announcements for the event, including innovative encryption technology, performance increases, and advanced predictive analytics.

The Windows version of SQL Server 2016 will be released later this year.
