Apple Event Now Set for March 21st
After rumors of a March 15th event, Apple has pushed the date back by a week and made it official, sending out the invites. Industry insiders expect the company to unveil a new, and smaller, 4-inch iPhone model, as well as a refreshed 9.7-inch iPad and a handful of Apple Watch accessories.
Talk of Security
Outside of new hardware, it’s also believed that CEO Tim Cook will touch on the recent security debacle revolving around government-requested access to an iPhone believed to have been used by one of the terrorists in the December attack in San Bernadino. Monday’s event is the day before Apple will appear in a Riverside, California court along with the FBI. About a month ago, Tim Cook wrote a letter to consumers and the technology industry as a whole, reiterating Apple’s position against building backdoor access into their mobile operating system.
It isn’t likely that we’ll see a new iPhone flagship model, despite many insiders who stated back in February that the iPhone 7 was likely for March. An entirely new Apple Watch is also improbably. While the first Apple Watch model was released a year ago, the consensus is that a refresh isn’t quite due.
