Verizon "Improves" Mobile Calling Plans
Verizon Wireless has quite the racket going. I have tried twice to upgrade my phone from the dark ages to a newer model and guess what? I’ve been screwed over both times! The first time, they discontinued the phone I want on the day I was to upgrade because “they want to support newer models”. Then I set my heart on the Chocolate Touch from LG, and today they required a data plan on that and many other Verizon Wireless phones that did not need it before. Foiled again! Now I have to spend $10 per month on a 25 MB data plan that I don’t even want!
From the Verizon blog:
Get wireless the way you want it.
Whether you want to talk and text or just talk, there’s a plan for you. At Verizon Wireless, we’ve made calling simple – and affordable.
For only $89.99 monthly access, you get
Unlimited Talk
Call any number, any time, on any network in the U.S.
Unlimited Text
Send or receive Text, Picture, Video and Voice Messages with anyone on any network in the U.S.
Do more with data.
Get the latest games and apps or browse the web. Plus, for an extra $9.99 a month, get a data package that includes Mobile Email on Simple Feature or 3G Multimedia Phones.
They “updated and improved” their plans today, which means that an upgrade would require a plan change. The new rules added that $10 data plan I was telling you about. This is really bad. Find the PDF with more info on the new plans attached here: Exciting new calling plans. Thanks for nothing, Verizon.
Here’s the phones that now require a data plan besides smartphones:
