Quick Review: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

The Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz processor is an excellent choice for gaming and 3D imaging work. With its dual Wolfdale 3.0GHz cores and 6MB of cache, the E8400 will handle nearly any game you throw at it, even titles with stiff graphic requirements like Crysis or Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

Although a bit pricey at $190, it’s really worth the money in my opinion. It should work with most sockets, as it is LGA 775. Most customer reviews of this product are very high, 89% of the 2625 buyers on Newegg gave it 5 stars.

It also runs very cool; the highest temperature I’ve ever recorded while running programs like Maya 2010 is 39C (102 degrees Fahrenheit).  To keep it at such low temperatures, I am using a $20 ASUS processor fan. If you are really into gaming, this is the processor for you. If you simply browse the internet or listen to music, I recommend a less expensive processor.
