Speed-Up Your Vista XP or 97

I have been hearing a lot lately about students having issues with slow WIndows start up issues. Of course the Windows 7 beta (noted in previous blogs) is super fast on its own. But Cleaning the registry once in a while helps magnificently. Here is a link to one highly-rated program:...

Yahoo CEO wants to reorganize…finally

So it seems after years of playing sub-par in the email, homepage, and search engine department Yahoo! finally grabbed some sense and decided to reorganize. Carol Bartz, Yahoo!’s six week old CEO wrote “Today I’m rolling out a new management structure that I believe will make Yahoo a lot faster on its feet…We’ll be able to make speedier decisions, the notorious silos are gone, and we have a renewed focus on the customer.” Ever since the previous CEO Jerry Yang denied a $47.5 billion takeover bid from Microsoft, Yahoo! stocks have been trickling to their new low of $13 a share of thrusday. This was not the first attempt of partnership; last year Yahoo! tried to partner with Google, but were denied because of an anti-trust lawsuit. In some sense, it looks like Yahoo! may try to turn around. Google could use some competition, considering they control the entire world as we know...

The Cloud and Our HDD's

Hypothetical question: will we need HDD’s larger than 10 gigabytes on laptops within the next ten years? Lets look at both possible answers. Yes, of course programs are growing to be large, complex systems of files, flashy screen transitions, and processor sucking workhorses. Games are growing in requirements, size, and detail. It is not uncommon to see today’s PC games require 15gigs of space, minimum of 2gigs ram, and a 2.4 or above mghz processor. As games and software climb the never-ending ladder of Moore’s law, so do the laptops needed for today’s portable power user. But what if all of your software, music, and games were online? What If you did not need all that anti-green space on your battery-using hdd? Soon, this may be a reality. For those of you who do not now, A large integrated system of servers keeps the internet going. As companies grow, accounts get larger, and this means more space for us. The cloud is the idea of having no files on your own drive, instead, they are stored on various servers which hold your documents and settings. The cloud has already begun. Online software today exists for every purpose. Need to listen to some music? Mobui Audience Chat: Socialize while watching TV

If you’re a couch potato, there’s now a way for you to exercise your brain and socialize, a little bit, while watching TV. Mobui, a mobile-application developer that acquired Action Engine awhile back, announced Thursday the launch of Mobui Audience Chat. Basically, this is a mobile app that television broadcasters and studios could utilize to engage audiences’ participation in their shows in real time via their mobile phones. Think of this as how you’ve been voting for an American Idol, only that you now can engage in much more interactive conversations, rather than just send in your vote. Audiences can interact with the show or with one another in different chat rooms.   Full Post...

Safari 4 Public Beta Released, competes with Firefox? (screenshots added)

Safari 4 Public Beta has been released and is surprisingly great competition against Firefox. When testing it myself, I decided to switch browsers. Come test it out for yourself! Safari 4 Beta Pros: Tabs on the top of the window Top bar takes up less space A “top site” page when you create a blank new tab (like Google chrome does) All around better UI Faster (and I mean Fast) Browser Application launch time is faster than Firefox (about <1 second for my system) Coverflow history New built-in Nitro engine Native Windows feel Developer tools Smart address/search field Phishing and Malware Protection Updated RSS reader Safari 4 Beta Cons: Lost the progressbar in the address bar Saved session in safari is still not added (Stand plug-in can fix this) Takes time to get used to tabs on top...

Apple's shareholder meeting is uneventful, no Jobs.

Apple’s first annual shareholder meeting in more than 10 years without founder and CEO Steve Jobs was largely uneventful, as COO Tim Cook and board members stepped in to handle questions regarding Apple’s disclosure of Jobs’ health. Five shareholder proposals were considered, and only the one approving the re-election of Apple’s eight existing board members was approved in preliminary voting. As in past years, the informal question-and-answer section was by far more interesting, although without Jobs’ usual acerbic replies to institutional shareholders on soapboxes, a little duller. Some of the more interesting highlights from the meeting: Jobs’ health Happy birthday Macworld Executive compensation Al Gore, socialism, and TV ads To see a full recap, go to http://go.cosmicthings.com/apple/shareholder09/ [CNET...

Happy Birthday Steve Jobs!

Today ,2/24/09, is my idol, Steve Jobs’ Birthday! Today Steve turns 54. When you really think about it, he is not that old. Some people would not guess his age to be 54 knowing his health issues and his taking of a “break” from leading Apple. Nonetheless we all (I know I do) miss Steve and wish him all the best and a Happy Birthday! -Kevin...
