Sony sells 10 million eBooks!

Sony, the electronics giant that invented the first eBook Reader, has reached a momentous milestone Wednesday, May 5 – selling 10 million eBooks!

This milestone marks the significance of the eBook movement, one that began with the first Sony Reader in 2007.  Over time, Sony has made many advancements in their devices, including the eventual introduction of touch screens and 3G connectivity, along with an updated eBook Storefront, and most recently the addition of periodicals!  The current models incluse the Pocket, Touch, and Daily Edition Readers – priced at $149.99, $299.99, and $349.99 respectivley.  The Daily Edition is the most comprehensive model, with a large 7″ touchscreen e-ink display and 3G conectivity through AT&T.  The Touch edition has a smaller 6″ touchscreen display without 3G connectivity, but it is availiable in a variety of colors.  Lastly and most economically sensible is the basic Pocket edition, with a smaller 5″ screen and even a feminine pink color availiable.  All of the Editions of the Sony Reader family are great devices, and suit different needs for different people.

To celebrate such a wonderful milestone, Sony is offering a $10 credit to any person who bought a book from the Reader Store on May 5th, 2010, the day the milestone was reached.  Is this a turn in the tide of the market in favor of Sony?  Or is this a milestone already reached by Amazon with the Kindle Book Store?  And most importantly, how does this affect the eBook market as a whole?  These questions cannot be answered at this point in time, becuase the eBook war continues onward – and hopefully Sony will win.  For more information about the Sony Reader Family of digital books, visit sonystyle.com!
