Windows 7 to come out at End of 2009?

Microsoft is moving forward with plans to launch Windows 7 this year, although the company still refuses to publicly commit to that goal. Microsoft is also putting the finishing touches on a program to offer Vista buyers a free or low-cost update to Windows 7. That program could kick off as early as July, sources said. The company has run such “technology guarantee” programs in the past, typically allowing each PC maker to set the exact rules, but essentially offering buyers after a certain time to get a free upgrade to the next version. (TechArp has a post with even more details on Microsoft’s planned Windows 7 Upgrade Program.)   from CNET News- Get more info below:...

New Tech Talk RSS Screensaver

I am excited to announce that version 1.1 of the Tech Talk RSS screensaver is now online. I regret that this version is for windows only. I will try to find a way to port it to Mac. This screensaver boasts Mac backgrounds, Windows backgrounds and general techy logos and cartoons. It plays radio from the free radio station http://geeksradio.fm , and pulls in the latest news from our blog. You can turn off the background music and the RSS feed, although then there would be no point to the screensaver except to be a picture slideshow. We will be releasing updates in the future. If you ever have any photos tech related you want added to our screensaver, email jamie@cosmicthings.com with them as an attachement. There are 60 photos already- please help us get more. You can always download the latest version from http://go.cosmicthings.com/techtalkscr/ Thanks for using Tech Talk! Download The Screensaver Latest Version...

Windows 7 Operating System Flavors

We begged and we pleaded… and Microsoft didn’t listen. Once again there will be 7 flavors of the next Windows release Windows 7: Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise.  An either really good (or really bad) feature is that there will be one disk for all versions, so all the features of ultimate are going to be on your starter copy- so close but oh, oh so far away.  Once you purchase upgrades you will be able to unlock these features- no need for the original install disk.  I’m sure that some crafty people will be able to find a crack for this, forcing Microsoft to never do anything like this again.  You Hackers!  For more information on the flavors of Windows 7 and these new features you can visit http://go.cosmicthings.com/windows/win7flavors/ For full CNET Coverage of Windows 7...

Some TV Stations Don't Care What The FCC Has to Say

As we all know, the DTV Trasition was lengthened to June 12  instead of the Preposed February 17, 2009.  some Tv stations, such as our very own WBOC, have decided that they are not going to wait. The new law allows TV stations to get permission from the FCC, the TV licensing agency, to turn off their analog channels before June 12, and the FCC says that, of the 1796 TV stations that must complete the switch to digital, 379 stations are already digital-only or will be by Feb. 17.  Plus, up to another 700 stations could “safely” go all-digital before June 12.  (TV viewers will have to watch for messages from their local stations to see when those stations will turn off their analog channels.  In some TV viewing areas, all the local stations may turn off analog channels on the same day; in other areas, TV stations might do analog channel shutoffs on different dates.) for more information on the delay, visit CNET News’s article:...
