How to be a Telemarketer

In this guide, I’ll tell you how to be the perfect telemarketer.

Step 1: Get a Caller ID scrambler.  Nothing is worse than having your real number appear on the other perosn’s phone.  I prefer either no number at all or a random 1-866 number.  That’s when you can have some real fun.

Step 2: Come up with a fake charity to say that  you’re from. Any will do, but some popular choices are “The Fireman Association” or the “Cancer Alliance”.  Do something either really generic or really complicated. Some telemarketers try to convince you they are from Verizon Wireless.  I say to keep it simple.

Step 3: Call people early in the morning or late at night. People love getting calls at 5 in the morning on a Saturday or 11 PM on a Sunday.  It keeps them in a fantastic mood and they love to talk to you.

Step 4:  Hang up as soon as the answering machine comes on. Giving the person on the other end who didn’t pick up a dial tone is the best gift of all.

Step 5: Be as annoying as possible. This is the golden rule of telemarketing.  If you follow only one of my tips, follow this one.  Call them constantly.  Speak in a foriegn language.  Anything you can. I hope these tips help you to become the perfect telemarketer!
