Windows 7 Released Today!
The successor to the long line of Windows operating systems has arrived today: Microsoft Windows 7. The oft-maligned predecessor, Windows Vista, was disappointing in the eyes of Microsoft, as it never took off as planned. Windows 7 shares many traits with Vista, however. The “Aero” theme, Gadgets, Windows Media Center 11, and many other of the features that were new to Vista are still standard in 7. Windows 7 does have some important changes, though, such as the new Taskbar, Jump Lists, and the improved User Account Control. I personally don’t love Windows 7, because I love many of the features in Vista that have been stripped from 7: the Sidebar, “old” Taskbar with Preview, Windows Mail, Windows Calendar, Windows Contacts, and many other features that Vista provided will now have to be acquired separately for 7. I hope that Windows 7 will bring Windows back to the forefront, because Vista hurt Windows’ image. Vista was a great OS, and if you have Vista I see no reason to upgrade. If you are coming from a PC with Windows XP or older, you probably should go with Windows 7 because it is the current system, like it or not. Many of the people who bashed Vista bashed it because they were trying to run it on a sub-par system. Vista was a “power-hog,” but they were forewarned. Maybe Vista was ahead of its time. Regardless, Windows 7 is the future, and the future is now. I will probably endorse 7 as I am looking at buying a new PC soon, and Windows 7 comes pre-installed on all current PCs. Windows 7 isn’t bad (well anything is better than a Mac), but I still think that it is more so an improvement upon Vista rather than an entirely new OS. Windows 7 probably could have been Service Pack 3 for Vista, but I guess Microsoft wants to try and build an entirely new image, rather than try to fix a broken one.
Windows 7 will come pre-installed on all new PCs. If you are looking to upgrade, you can buy it in several different flavors: Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate.
